Arms smugglers' gang busted in Dimapur

Kohima, Oct 07 (UNI) The Dimapur police had busted a racket of arms smuggling and arrested four persons, including two women, yesterday.

Official sources here today said the police also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition along with communication equipment.

Acting on a tip off the police team comprising Special Operation Team, Mobile Squad and personnel from West Police Station of Dimapur yesterday raided one house in the Duncan Bosti area and arrested all the four.

However, the kingpin of the racket was still at large, police said.

Police also suspect the possible links of the gang with some militant outfits like United Peoples' Democratic Solidarity (UPDS), an outfit of Karbi Anglong district of Assam.

Police recovered one 1.22 Assault Rifle, one country made gun, one .380 ammunition, two live Rocket Launcher bombs, one country made pistol, two LMG magazines, two magazines of AK Assault Rifles, one M16 magazine, 20 live rounds of 7.65 ammunition, 97 live cartridges of AK Assault rifle , ten gelatine sticks and one 5.56 ammunition with one empty case.

Two fuse wire bundles, five wooden buts, four walkie-talkie sets, two Arial of Kenwood and two Icon Arial were also seized, police added.
