After Bahraich, arson in Shravasti over cow slaughter rumour

Shravasti, Oct 7 (UNI) After Bahraich, a mob today resorted to arson and set ablaze six huts and three shops here, following a cow slaughter rumour that spread in the Bhinga area here.

Police said a few stray dogs killed a cow which entered another' field in Akbarpur area.

Suspecting it to be a cow slaughter incident, a mob led by locals, set on fire six huts and three shops.

Meanwhile, 18 people have been arrested in this regard and PAC in strength deployed in the area.

In an asynchronous incident in Bahraich on October 5, some mischief mongers had spread the rumour that a cow had been slaughtered at Shaikhaiya Pura locality.

Later a mob took out a procession to the market in Kotwali area.

Since, the market was chock-a-block with Eid shoppers, panic prevailed in the area, leading to a stampede, in which almost 25 people were wounded.
