AABP demands CBI probe into communal violence at Dhubri
New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) The All Assam Bengali Parishad (AABP) has demanded a CBI probe into the communal violance of Dhubri which took place on September 24.
The AABP in a two page fax addressed to Congress President Sonia Gandhi said that the national integrity has been endangered in lower Assam for the last 20 years due to the activities of a section of political and religious leaders.
There have been many instances in the past which show that the Bengali Hindu community of the Brahmaputra valley in Assam is not at all safe.
AABP Chief convenor Chitta Paul has pointed out that in Sapatgram and Bilasipara of Dhubri district of lower Assam a major group clash took place on the night of September 24, 2007 when a group of Hindu Bengali youth were celebrating the victory of team India over Pakistan in Twenty-20 final in Johannesburg, South Africa, they were assaulted by a group of Muslim youth.
This incident took place after 2300 hrs when more than two hundred Muslims entered Sapatgram with arms and started demolishing the houses of Bengali Hindus.
They alleged that Mohhamad Imdad Hussain, SDPO of Bilasipara and younger brother of ex-MLA were involved in this act.
