PIL demanding CBI probe in police recruitment scam rejected

Allahabad, Oct 5 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today rejected a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) demanding a CBI probe into the alleged police recruitment scam by to the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime in Uttar Pradesh.

The order was passed by a bench comprising Chief Justice H L Gokhale and Justice Anjani Kumar on a PIL filed by an advocate Samar Singh.

The PIL had alleged gross irregularities in the UP police recruitment during the Samajwadi Party (SP) government.

Observing that the petition lacked grounds on the basis of which CBI probe could be ordered, the HC subsequently dismissed it.

Altogether over 20,000 policemen were recruited during the previous SP regime and several irregularities were detected during the probe conducted by the present Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government, when it came to power in May.
