Nine people feared drowned in back waters of river Cauvery

Mysore, Oct 5 (UNI) Nine people, including six women and two girls, were feared drowned when two coracle in which they were travelling capsized on the back waters of the river Cauvery near Sagarakatte in Mysore District of Karnataka today.

Police said that the incident occurred when the victims after visiting their land near Ramanahalli, went for a picnic in the backwaters.

However, Four people swam to safety.

Two bodies were recovered so far and search is on for other bodies.

The victims have been identified as Rathnamma (30) Vinodini (27) Sheela (22) Dhanalakshmi(19) Anand (30) Shobha (22) Manjula (20) Maduri (Seven) and Rakshitha (Seven).

Deputy Commissioner Channappa Gowda and other officials visited the spot and released Rs 1000 for the last rights for the victims at the spot.
