Gujjars court arrest in 'jail bharao'

Bharatpur (Jammu), Oct 2, 2007: Thousands of Gujjars courted arrest in their “jail bharo" movement in several parts of Rajasthan and Jammu today in their efforts to force the government to promulgate a law recognizing them as Scheduled Tribes.

The Gujjar community decided to adopt “Gandhigiri" to achieve their objective on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The Gujjars took the decision after the deadline set by the community leaders for a positive response from the Government expired.
