Sugarcane millers asked to clear farmers' dues

Lucknow, Oct 4 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh sugarcane development and Sugar Industry Minister Naseem-ud-din Siddiqui today warned the sugarcane millers for prompt payment of farmers' cane dues to offset strict action in this regard.

Addressing a meeting of sugarcane millers, Mr Siddiqui said the state government would be forced to take strict action in the interests of farmers, if the cane dues were not settled.

''The mill owners should also intimate the state government within two days, as to when the cane dues would be cleared by them,'' he added.

The minister has also directed the cooperative and corporation officials to ensure full payment to sugarcane farmers by the mill under their control.
