Preparations for Dasara procession in progress

Mysore, Oct 4 (UNI) Preparations were in full swing for the successful conduct of 'Jamboo Savari' procession on October 21, the crowning event of the Mysore Dasara festivities.

Talking to newspersons here today, Information and Tourism Secretary I M Vittal Murthy said the three km procession that included various cultural troupes, police bands and as many as 22 Tableaux would march ahead of caparisoned elephants with 'Balarama' carrying the idol Goddess Chamundeshwari. the presiding deity of the city of palaces.

Mr Murthy said special security arrangements would be in place with the installation of Close Circuit Camera TVs (CCCTs) at various places in the city. The Tourism Department would set up Information Centres at 25 places in and around the city, he added.

He said Cultural programmes would be organised at Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi hills, temple towns of Nanjangud, Somanathapura and Srirangapatna. During the procession, package tours would also be arranged, apart from facilities for home-stays for the convenience of thousands of tourists, expected to attend the nine-day festival, he added.

The entire procession would be telecast live on Doordarshan.

Mr Murthy said despite the political uncertainty in the State, the Dasara festivities would be held with traditional fervour and gaeity. The publicity campaign would begin from October six in India and abroad, he added.
