LS Deputy Speaker supports Somnath on law to recall MPs

Jalandhar, Oct 4 (UNI) Supporting the idea of Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on law to recall non-functioning Members of Parliament, Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal today called for national debate on the issue.

Favouring the legal procedure to recall Members of Parliament not working as per the expectations of the people, Mr Atwal said that the issue should be debated nationally so as to prevent misuse of the law.

The Deputy Speaker was talking to media persons here after reviewing the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting.

He said that during the current financial year, nearly 12,000 families of Jalandhar district would be given 100 days employment under National Rural Employement Guarantee Programme.

Mr Atwal also instructed the PSEB to give power connections withing a month to those villages where all the formalities to implement Rural Water Suppy Programme have been completed.

He also directed the SDMs to rectify any mistake committed by lower staff while preparing land records within two months to further save the farmers from moving pillar to post.
