Life prisoner escapes from Central jail
Kannur, Oct 4: A life term prisoner escaped from the Central prison here last night, by removing roof-tiles of the block where he was lodged along with 56 prisoners, officials informed today.
Deepak (27), hailing from Thiruvambadi in Kozhikode district, was brought to the jail on January 15, 2004. The prisoner escaped from the seventh block after removing the roof-tiles and climbing down using eight 'dhothis' of other inmates.
Though the Kozhikode Additional Sessions Court-III had handed him capital punishment for killing a 12-year-old girl, Ambili, a native of Pulloorampara in Kozhikode district after raping her, the High court reduced the punishment to life-term.
