Lalu meets stampede victims, announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia

Mughalsarai, UP, Oct 3 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav tonight reached the Divisional Railway Hospital here and met the 48 people, mostly women, injured at the Mughalsarai Raiway Station stampede tragedy.

Later before the mediapersons, Mr Yadav announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the family of 14 women killed in the stampede, besides giving railway jobs to at least their one dependent.

The Minister also announced providing jobs to those, who might have suffered physical disability in the mishap.

Terming the accident as a tragedy, he said a three-member high level committee will hold the inquest into the entire episode.

He, however, stopped short of making any announcements over the urgent need of increasing the number of platforms at the Mughalsarai railway station, which is a key station in the Howrah-New Delhi route, besides serving as the gateway to Bihar and Bengal.

Mr Yadav, who arrived tonight later left for Patna by a special train.

At least 14 women were killed and 48 others, mostly women, injured in a major stampede at the Mughalsarai railway station today.
