Indian Post releases special envelope to mark wildlife week

Port Blair, Oct 4 (UNI) Indian Post has brought out special envelope with special cancellation as part of the 53rd Wildlife Week-2007, officials said today.

The envelope and special cancellation depicting 'Leather back turtle and Andaman Wood Pegion' respectively were released by Mr S S Choudhury, the Secretary, Environment and Forests of Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Choudhury thanked the Postal department for associating with the Forest department in their endeavours towards creating awareness about protection of wildlife.

''So far our awareness campaign was confined to this island territory only but with the association of Postal department it had reached in the mainland also,'' he said, adding that Doordarsahan, AIR and the mass media would be involved in the mission towards creating awareness.

Meanwhile, the Postal department had thrown open a mini exhibition- ''Gandhi Pex'' at Philatelic Bureau to commemorate the Gandhi Jayanti and 100 years of Satyagraha movement.

A set of four stamps would be released on October 8 depicting the endangered butterflies found in these islands, said Mrs Madhumita Das Director of Posts.
