Fire destroys 17 houses

Puducherry, Oct 4: As many as 17 houses of a temporary tsunami shelter at Chinnakalapetkuppam near here, were destroyed in a fire early this morning.

According to fire service sources, the fire which broke out in a house at 0300 hrs spread to the adjoining ones. The loss is yet to be estimated. However, there was no loss of life as people ran to safety before flames engulfed the houses.

Electrical short-circuit was said to be the cause for fire.

UNI
