CPI urges EC to ban publicity of state government schemes

Ahmedabad, Oct 4 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the Election Commission, a team of which is on a visit to Gujarat, to ban the publicity of various schemes launched state government before the campaign for the state assembly election commences.

''We have urged the Election Commission to ban the publicity of government schemes like Vanbandhu Yojana and Garib Samrudhdhi Yojana, which do not find any mention in the the state government's budget,'' party spokesperson Ramsagarsingh Parihar told reporters here.

''We have also urged the Election Commission to avoid police services in the forthcoming polls, as the state government has transferred scores of police officials from urban to rural areas to suit its interests,'' Mr Parihar said.

The CPI has also requested the Election Commission to stop the use of religious symbols and use of places of worship during the campaign, he added.
