Buddhist monks demand peacekeeping force for Myanmar

Lucknow, Oct 4 (UNI) Buddhist monks and intellectuals today staged a demonstation here to protest the brutalities being committed on pro-democracy Buddhist monks in Myanmar by the military junta.

The monks, holding picture posters of fellow monks shot dead in Myanmar, demanded the Centre to intervene in the matters across the border.

The monks sat on a silient dharna in front of the Vidhan Sabha for over four hours.

They also demanded that India work out a way to ensure that armed peacekeepers are dispatched to that country to establish tranquality. ''India should initiate efforts as Buddhism was born here and it was protected by emperor Ashoka and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar,'' said noted Hindi writer Mudra Rakshas.
