AP govt to distribute Rs 6300 crore loans for Rabi crop

Hyderabad, Oct 4 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy today said the government had directed the banks to distribute Rs 6,300 crore worth crop loans to the farmers during the coming Rabi season in the state.

Addressing the press here, Mr Reddy said 42 lakh hectares would be brought under cultivation in the ensuing Rabi season. The total production of food grains during this year was expected to be around 100 lakh metric tonnes.

Stating that crop loans worth Rs 11,000 crore had been distributed in the Khariff season as against Rs 9,519 crore during last Khariff, he said the prospects of Rabi crops were bright with sufficient storage in the tanks and reservoirs and ground water significantly recharged.

The crop insurance scheme had been extended to another five districts -- East Godavari, West Godavari, Vizianagaram, Kurnool and Medak -- from this year, the Minister said.
