830 bags of ration rice seized from a Godown

Madurai, Oct 4 (UNI) Police today arrested three persons after a special squad constituted by the District Collector S S Jawahar seized 830 bags of rice, meant for Public Distribution System (PDS), from a Godown at Anupanadi, here.

Police said acting on a tip off, the squad comprising revenue officials conducted surprise raids at rice mills in the area and found the bags were stored in the Godown of a rice mill.

It was found that rice smuggled from the PDS outlets from various parts were kept in the Godown for illegal sale with a brand name, police added.
