13th Natl Sub-Jr Boys Hockey Championship

Bhopal, Oct 4 (UNI) Sports Authority of India, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab and Sindh Bank have secured quarter-final berths in the 13th National Sub-Junior Boys Hockey Championship underway at the SAI premises here.

Punjab and Sindh Bank today beat Chandigarh 3-0. Jagdeep Singh scored in the 16th minute, the second goal was made by Manjinder Singh and the last by Mandeep Singh who converted a penalty corner in the 57th minute. The winners got 5 penalty corners while Chandigarh got just one.

The first half of the SAI-Orissa encounter witnessed the latter team making splendid moves initially to try and breach the SAI defence. After about the first 15 minutes, SAI came back into the game and fired 4 goals. Orissa got 4 penalty corners while SAI got 3.

Uttar Pradesh defeated hosts Madhya Pradesh 6-0. Two quarter-final matches are scheduled tomorrow. Madhya Pradesh State Men's Hockey Academy and Namdhari 11 are already in the semi-finals.

The event is under the aegis of the Indian Hockey Federation and state Sports and Youth Welfare Department.
