Wife of ULFA leader convicted for extortion
Guwahati, Oct 3 (UNI) ULFA cadre Purabi Neog alais Bonti Lahon, wife of ULFA 'commander' Prabal Neog, was convicted in a 2004 extortion case by Dibrugarh Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Robin Phukan today.
Purabi was arrested along with her husband Prabal Neog, 'commander' of the ULFA's dreaded '28th battalion', and their two-year-old son from Tezpur on September 17.
After being brought to Guwahati, Purabi was taken to Dibrugarh to stand trial for the cases she faces there.
The CJM convicted Purabi on charges of extorting money on behalf of ULFA, on the basis of a FIR lodged in Moran police station of Dibrugarh district in November 2004. She was shifted to the Dibrugarh central jail with her son. Her quantum of punishment is yet to be pronounced.
Purabi was remanded in one-day police custody by the CJM yesterday after police appealed for five-days custody after Purabi was produced in the court in Dibrugarh yesterday.
