Kurukshetra women maintain monopoly in hockey
Sirsa, Oct 3 (UNI) Star-sprinkled Kurukshetra carried too many guns against Hisar whom they handed out a 6-0 drubbing in the women's hockey final on the penultimate day of the XXI Haryana State Games here today.
With four members of the Indian team, which finished fourth in the recent Asia Cup in Hong Kong, playing for Kurukshetra (Shahbad), known as nursery of Indian women hockey, the team enjoyed territorial supremacy throughout the match.
With Rajwinder Kaur, Jasjeet Kaur, Suman Bala and Surinder Kaur in their ranks, Kurukshetra got six penalty corners and one penalty stroke.
Jasjeet Kaur and Balwinder Kaur contributed two goals each.
Jasjeet scored in the 13th minute and converted a penalty stroke in the 28th minute.
Balwinder Kaur's goals came in the 15th and 39th minutes.
Malkit Kaur(21st) and Navjot Kaur (43rd) scored one goal each to swell the winners' tally to six.
Jan Nayak Ch Devi Lal Vidyapeeth Director General Kuldip Singh Dhindsa distributed the prizes. Ms Krishan Sampat Singh, president of the Haryana Women Hockey Association, was also present on the occasion and also distributed medals.
