11 lakh children to be covered in polio drive

Chandigarh, Oct 3 (UNI) More than 11 lakh children below the age of five years would be covered in Gurgoan, Faridabad and Mewat districts of Haryana under the special pulse polio immunisation campaign commencing on October 7.

A spokesman for Haryana Health Department said that adequate arrangements had been made for the successful implementation of the campaign and 8000 teams would be deployed in 4000 booths to go from house-to-house to immunise targeted children in these districts of Haryana.

He said the functioning of these teams would be closely monitored by about 800 Supervisors during the campaign.

Also, to assess quality coverage, independent monitors would be deployed from Pt B D Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak.

The spokesman said satisfactory progress had been made in the state as a result of concerted efforts made for improving the quality of Pulse Polio Programme.

He said last year about 676 cases had been confirmed in the country out of which nine cases were from Haryana. This year 255 cases had been confirmed in the country so far, out of which two were from Haryana.
