UP CM kickstarts 'Soot Yagya', 10% rebate on Khadi announced
Lucknow, Oct 2 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today weaved the spinning wheel and kickstarted 'Soot Yagya' at the Gandhi Ashram in the state capital with a view to encouraging Khadi industry on the 138th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
On the special occasion, the Chief Minister announced a 10 per cent rebate on Khadi products.
Speaking at a function to commemorate 'Gandhi Jayanti', Ms Mayawati said, ''Bapu elevated the fragile thread of cotton to a symbol of strength and self-sufficiency.'' ''...Khadi is nation's pride. The hand-spun cotton, known as Khadi, is of special significance to Indians. Many rural men and women are engaged in the making of Khadi which is a comfortable and eco-freindly natural cloth. My government is committed to removing all the obstacles in the way of development of Khadi and Gram Udyog on a priority basis,'' she maintained.
Gandhiji had an immense economic vision. He intended to build the nation on this basis. The unemployment problem is a huge threat. The Gandhian pattern of economy is the only answer to it. Bapu encouraged Khadi to employ each and every person of society, Ms Mayawati observed.
