Lucknow, Oct 2 (UNI) Mega Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan is once again in controversy as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) has issued notice to Big B on his claim that (jurm) (crime) in Uttar Pradesh was less as compared to other states.

The Big B had played the lead role in a series of TV campaigns on the crime situation in the state during the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

CIC, Justice(Retd) M A Khan, issued notice under a Right To Information (RTI) application moved by one Braj Bhushan Dubey of Gazipur district.

In his order issued in the last week of September, the CIC has asked Mr Bachchan to reply by October 15 on his claims that the crime situation in UP was better than other states. The Big B had quoted figures from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in the advertisements.

The Commission also directed that the notice should be sent by registered post to the former member of the dissolved UP Development Council(UPDC).

The commission also made it clear that the reply to the notice should be made available to them by October 15, otherwise Mr Bachchan would have to present himself in person before the CIC.

Justice Mr Khan here also confirmed that he had sent notices to both the sides over the issue and fixed October 15 as the next date of hearing. ''It is a routine matter and the notice sent to Mr Bachchan was part of a normal procedure,'' he added.

In his seven point application, the applicant had demanded that Mr Bachchan should clarify the basis of his claim that '' UP mein hai dum, kyonki jurm yaha hai kam''. He has also sought the copies of the crime report of the particular period of the claim and even wanted to know how much money was paid to him for the ad and other details of the contract.

The applicant, Mr Dubey, told UNI here today that he has the right to know the details of the advertisement undertaken by the star. ''The ad done by Mr Bachchan was an effort to cover up the crime rate during that period and help the then government to win elections,'' he claimed.

Mr Dubey said that earlier the commission had sent the notice to the sectretary of the dissolved UPDC which was not replied so this time it was sent directly to Mr Bachchan.

The application was sent to the commission on March 30 during the assembly polls in the state while it was registered with the CIC on June 14.
