Peace March held in Nagpur to mark Gandhi Jayanti
Nagpur, Oct 2 (UNI) A peace march was held to mark the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and International Non-Violence Day here today.
The peace march included musical troupes playing the Mahatma's 'bhajans' and floats. It went around the major thoroughfares in the city before culminating at a local stadium.
A 300-metre banner carrying a pledge on truth, non-violence and peace was displayed at the stadium, which was signed by the citizens of Nagpur.
The peace march also included a 'peace flame' (Shanti Jyoti), which had arrived here earlier in the morning from Sewagram in adjoining Wardha district, where the Mahatma spent several years during the freedom struggle. A musical programme featuring noted singers Anuradha Paudwal and Suresh Wadkar was held later in the evening.
