Srinagar, Oct 2 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir High Court has quashed the detention of ten persons, including three senior leaders of breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

The court has directed the authorities to release the detainees, including two senior HC leaders, Muslim League chairman Masarat Alam, Firdous Ahmad Shah and the head of the Jammu and Kashmir Employees Movement Mohammad Shafi Lone, in case they are not sought in any other case.

The release order came after the court heard argument from the counsels of both the sides.

Masarat, Firdous and Lone were arrested alongwith Ghulam Nabi Sumbji on April 25 this year during a press conference in a local hotel.

However, Sumbji was released on court directions last month after his detention was quashed.

The Hurriyat leaders were arrested in connection with the hoisting of Pakistan and militant organisation flags and raising pro-freedom slogans during a public meeting which was addressed by Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani at historic Eidgah Maidan on April 22.

They were later booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) for two years. However, the detention under PSA was challenged by them.

The others who have been ordered by the court to be released include Arshid Hussain Badroo, Junaid Ahmad Sheikh, Mohammad Jamal Khan, Abdul Majid Lone, Mohammad Yousuf Mir, Shabir Ahmad Waza and Aijaz Ahmad Mir.
