2 soldiers injured, 2 militants arrested, 1 surrenders in J&K

Srinagar , Oct 2 (UNI) Two security force jawans were injured in a militant ambush, while two ultras were arrested and another surrendered in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

Militants today attacked a security force patrol party at Rigni Walla Khail under Tangmarg police station in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, causing injuries to two soldiers.

Security forces also retaliated but the militants managed to escape.

However, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a militant of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) alongwith arms and ammunition in north Kashmir last evening.

A police spokesman said acting on specific information, police apprehended a LeT militant identified as Abdul Majeed Sofi from Narva area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district last evening.

Three hand grenades and 15 rounds of AK 47 ammunition were also recovered from his possession.

Earlier during the day yesterday, police had arrested a militant Shaheen at Shalteang alongwith two AK rifles, one wireless set, seven grenades, two pouches and maps about Line of Control and infiltration tracks.

The spokesman said the militant, who is a resident of Theed, Harwan, during the questioning admitted that he was given the task to transport the arms and ammunition to the city from Dangerpora, Sopore in Baramulla district.

The consignment was to carry out suicide attack in the city, the militant said to police.

The Spokesman also said with the arrest of the militant, they had averted a major tragedy.

Police also arrested one Sumo driver from the Shalateng area and seized one AK rifle, 100 rounds and two rifle grenades from him.

A Hizbul Mujahideen ultra surrendered before the security forces at Rajouri in Jammu region along with one AK rifle, two magazines, 60 rounds and two hand grenades last evening.

Security forces during a search operation in General areas of Kalas Mohalla-Mahrote under Surankote Police station, had recovered one pistol, one magazine, six round, 86 pika rounds and one binocular from a hideout early today.
