Woman jumps into Sharda with 6 daughters, 3 drowned

Chitrakoot, Oct 1 (UNI) A woman, along with six daughters, including five minors, allegedly jumped into the Sharda river in Rajapur area here today.

Rizwana is said to have taken the step due to poverty.

While Shanu (17), Khushboo (15) and Sonam (10) drowned, Rizwana and three daughters Sana (19), Arzoo (5) and Muskaan (3) were saved by alert divers.

Police Superintendent Ravindra Singh said the woman took the drastic step as the family was reeling under penury and did not have money for the daughters' marriage.

However, DM Subhash Chandra Mishra claimed that poverty was not the reason behind the incident and Rizwana took the extreme step, since she did not have a son.

Investigations were underway.
