Whiff of winter in Delhi, mercury down to 34.1 C

New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) With Southwest monsoon on its way out and autumn knocking on the door, Delhi is experiencing a whiff of cool air with temperature coming down to one degree below normal.

Despite a mainly clear sky, cool northwesterly winds today led to a drop in maximum temperature to 34.1 degrees Celsius -- one degree below normal.

Earlier in the day, the minimum temperature also was recorded one degree below normal at 21.2 degree C.

Weathermen attribute the cool weather in Delhi to the transition period with monsoon nearing its end and the onset of autumn.

''Conditions are favourable for withdrawal of southwest monsoon from more parts of northwest India during the next 2-3 days,''weathermen said.

The Met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next few days with the mercury likely to remain at today's level.
