Nagpur Division of CR celebrates foundation day

Nagpur, Oct 1 (UNI) The Nagpur Division of Central Railway (CR) celebrated the 51st anniversary of its foundation today.

Speaking at a function to mark the occasion, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ashwani Kapoor said that the division formally came into being on October 1, 1956.

The division had grown in strength since, having achieved a freight loading of 28 million tonnes and revenue earning of Rs 1,500 crore per annum, he said.

Nagpur station alone handles 118 passenger trains and 60,000 passengers every day, Mr Kapoor said.

The division was important since it was at the country's geographical centre and handled traffic from all the four directions, he said. Mr Kapoor felicitated senior employees of the railways on the occasion.
