New Delhi, Oct 1 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today questioned 'extreme and unguarded' observations by the Supreme Court on the TN government, terming them ''uncalled for'' and ''having far-reaching consequences for the functioning of parliamentary democracy.'' Reacting to the observations of the apex court, the CPI's central secretariat said it is ''astonishing and shocking the Court had made such remarks on the situation in Tamil Nadu where political parties, including the CPI, had organised protests, demanding expeditious completion of the Sethu Samudram project.

The court said going ahead with the bandh call amounted to complete breakdown of constitutional machinery in Tamil Nadu and the UPA government at the Centre should not shy away from imposing President's Rule in the state.
