Court issues notice to Punjab govt on Virk's bail plea

Rupnagar, Oct 1 (UNI) A local court today issued notice for October 4 to the Punjab government on the bail application of former state DGP S S Virk.

Virk was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. On September 29, he had filed the bail application in the court of Sessions Judge Rekha Mittal.

The court had to take up the application today but since the Sessions Judge was away for inspection of court at SAS Nagar today, Incharge Sessions Judge G S Saran reviewed the case in her absence.

Virk is presently under judicial custody in the case and is admitted in PGI Chandigarh for treatment.

The hearing on the bail application filed by Vijay Pal Singh Dimpi, who is also a co-accused in the case against Virk, would also take place on October 4 in the court of the Sessions Judge.
