BJP shun JD(S) on nomination of MLC to Council

Bangalore, Oct 1(UNI) With the transfer of power in Karnataka by the Janata Dal(Secular) on October Three hanging in balance, coalition government partner Bharatiya Janata Party today declined the offer of JD(S) to accept five nominated posts in the Legislative Council.

Talking to newsmen here BJP State President D V Sadananda Gowda said that the party had received the proposal from the JD(S) to fill all the five nominated members, which had been sofar vacant. As per the earlier agreement reached between the two parties, BJP was to nominate three members and the JD(S) two.

Addressing newsmen here today BJP's Karnataka unit president Mr D V Sadananda Gowda disclosed that the JD(S) had sent a proposal to fill five vacancies to the Karnataka Legislative Council through nominations.

''Due to various reasons the process of nominating five vacancies to the Council did not take place earlier'' Mr Gowda added.

He also informed that the party had communicated to JD(S) to consider the issue of nominating five MLCs to the council at an appropriate time as it has to discuss the issue with party higher ups and declined JD(S) offer on the issue.

About the contentious issue of transfer of power Mr Gowda expressed confidence that it would take place as per the pact between two parties. "The issue may be cleared by tomorrow evening" he hoped.
