35 injured in a clash with police
Bolpur, Oct 1 (UNI) At least 35 people, including 15 policemen, were injured, some of them seriously, when an irate mob agitated over the irregular supply of ration today fought a pitched battle with police at Sian village under Bolpur Police Station.
Birbhum Superintendent of Police Satya Sadhan Panda said police resorted to lathicharge, fired six rounds in the air and hurled teargas shells to quell the marauding mob, which went on a rampage, torching a police jeep and three motor-cycles.
The agitated crowd also set afire the Labhpur Block office, Mr Panda added.
None had been arrested so far in this connection.
The injured had been hospitalised.
A posse of police force had been posted in the area to thwart further untoward incident.
