Srinagar, Sep 30 (UNI) Asserting that the Unified Command had proved fruitful to control militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Police Kuldeep Khuda has said the UC had resulted in tremendous improvement in the security scenario here.

Speaking at a 90-minute interaction between the Army and police officers here yesterday, he said close coordination through the UC among different security forces, engaged in counter-insurgency, had yielded good results in the state.

''Good results have been achieved through joint operations conducted by different security agencies against militants,'' Mr Khuda said at the interaction held in wake of the recent clash between the police and Army personnel at Magam in Handwara that injured six police personnel.

Police had registered a case against the Army while a defence spokesman denied the reports of attack on the police personnel.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone S M Sahai gave a detailed presentation about the overall situation in the valley.

He briefed the meeting about militants and other related issues, a police spokesman said today.

Cyber crimes, use of technology in containing militancy and efforts being made to modernise the police to meet the challenges also figured in the discussion.
