Hajipur, Sep 30 (UNI) Torrential rains for past one week threw life in Hajipur out of gear where weather-related accidents claimed at least eight lives so far, including those of three women.

Official sources here said the inclement weather and storms made life miserable for a vast section of people, particularly the poor and shelterless people.

The condition of the state capital, Patna, was also bad as water with rotten garbages covered the streets.

Several posh areas in the city including premises near state legislature, Srikrishna Nagar, Kidwai Puri, Budha colony, Sultangunj, Rajendar Nagar, Ashok Rajpath, Frazer road, Exhibition road, Bailey road, Boring road and Kankarbagh colony were under knee-deep water.

The bad condition of roads in these areas added to the woes of the people as incessant rains further deteriorated the situation.

Drains were overflowing with sewerage water that submerged the ground floor of thousands of houses in these areas including the patient wards of the Nalanda Medical College Hospital.

The weather office here predicted a cloudy sky with possibility of rains or thundershower in next 24 hours.

Rainfall in Patna was recorded at 12.8mm where maximum temperature was 30 degrees Celsius and humidity was 93 per cent.
