Former CM appeals to maintain peace in Sikkim

Gangtok, Sep 30 (UNI) Former Sikkim Chief Minister B B Goorong has appealed to the supporters of 'Indian Idol' Prashant Tamang to maintain peace in the state.

Mr Goorong, who is presently the advisor to Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, has described the agitation and subsequent violence in Siliguri on September 28 as ''most unfortunate''.

Mr Goorong also said the alleged derogatory remarks made by a radio jockey on a private FM channel had deeply hurt the sentiments of the entire Gorkha community.

''We, the people of the hills, vehemently denounce and condemn the remarks and demand unqualified apology from the private channel,'' he said in a press statement.
