'Shortage of judges causing pendency of cases'

Phagwara, Sep 29 (UNI) An Acute shortage of judges is causing long pendency of cases in various High Courts, Punjab And Haryana High Court Justice Vinod Kumar Sharma said today.

At present only 33 Judges were working in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against 53 posts, he said while talking to journalists after attending a function organised by Bar Association here.

About the decision to introduce mobile courts in Punjab and Haryana, he said one mobile court was presently functioning in Mewatin Haryana while second mobile court would be opened in Talwara in Punjab which will start functioning from October 2.

He said more mobile courts could be set up after observing the experience of these two mobile courts.

Seven senior lawyers of Kapurthla district, practicing for a period of more than fifty years, were honoured in the function.
