Militants shot at Education dept official for corruption

Imphal, Sep 29 (UNI) The cadres of proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) have shot at a State Education department official for alleged involvement in fake appointment of teachers and corruption.

Police here today said the official was shot at his leg and abandoned at Bishenpur district yesterday.

However, he was out of danger and was admitted to Shija hospital here, police added.

The official, a cashier in the department had allegedly siphoned Rs 53,06,246 alloted to the department under various schemes.

The outfit had also asked the official to take a voluntary retirement and return the misappropriated amount, police said.

The outfit had alleged that about 450 teachers were working on the basis of fake appointments.
