Mahila Congress hails extension of NREPG to entire country

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Hailing the extension of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) to the entire country, the Mahila Congress today said it will benefit women the most.

''... the best beneficiary of this scheme will be women as the majority of working hands of NREGP are women, despite the fact that the allocation for them under the scheme is (only) 40 per cent,'' Mahila Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi said in a statement.

She complimented Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi for extending the Programme, and newly-appointed AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for taking up the matter with the Prime Minister.

''Under the dynamic leadership of Ms Sonia Gandhi and vigilant and sensitive Rahul Gandhi, the poverty-alleviation programmes will go a long way in improving the economic status of the poor,'' the statement said.
