Haryana spends Rs 8.23 cr under SGRY in Mewat

Chandigarh, Sep 29 (UNI) The Haryana government has spent a sum of Rs 8.23 crore under the Sampuran Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) to provide employment of 7.78 lakh man-days during the last two-and-a-half years in district Mewat. Stating this here today, a spokesman for the Rural Development Department said under this scheme works such as construction of approach roads and water sheds, supply of water from canals to village ponds, cementing of phirnies (peripheral paths) and village streets were being carried out. He said the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme was launched in the district Mewat during last year and since then a sumo f Rs 81.83 lakh had been spent to provide 100 days of employment to unskilled workers.

As many as 3402 families had been provided employment under this scheme. The spokesman said that to provide residential facility to the people living below poverty line, an amount of Rs 3.97 crore had been spent to construct 1085 houses.

An amount of over Rs 2 crore had been spent to provide loan and grants to 1736 people living below poverty line to enable them to become self reliant under the Swarn Jayanti Gram Sav-Rozgaar Yojana in last two-and-a-half years. He said Rs 39.48 lakh had been spent for reclamation of barren land in Mewat district. The main aim was to plant maximum number of trees on barren land besides generating employment opportunities in the rural areas.
