Gujarat to promote technical textiles in big way

Ahmedabad, Sept 29 (UNI) The state government has launched various incentive schemes for the promotion of technical textiles in the state, Gujarat Chief Principal Industrial Advisor R J Shah informed here today.

''Gujarat has witnessed impressive industrial development. It contributes 17.2 per cent in fixed capital investment, 15.6 per cent of value of production and 13.7 per cent of value addition in industrial sector in India,'' Mr Shah said while addressing a two-day conference ''Texcellence 07''.

Textiles continue to be an important sector in Gujarat having 14.2 per cent share of the textile industry of India, he noted while pointing out that the textiles industry in Gujarat comprises all segments starting from cotton production, ginning and pressing, spinning, weaving, processing, apparel production, fashion design, trading and exports.

The state government, he said, has introduced a seperate scheme to promote technical textiles development in Gujarat. Under the scheme, credit linked 10 per cent capital subsidy is offered for plant and machinery for technical and industrial sector projects.

The scheme is valid for a period of five years, he said.

All small, medium and large industrial units setting up a new project for production of technical textiles or the existing industrial units carrying out expansion or upgradation in the technical textile are eligible to avail the incentive, he said.

The state government has also provided assistance to Ahmedabad Textile Industry's Research Association (ATIRA) and Man-made Textiles Research Association (MANTRA) to become centres of excellence in technical textiles, he added.
