Rahul's initiative historic: Dasmunsi

New Delhi, Sep 29: Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today termed ''historic'' the initiative of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, newly inducted as AICC general secretary, for extension of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme to all districts of the country.

''The historic move of Mr Rahul Gandhi reminds us of Mrs Indira Gandhi's determined commitment against poverty,'' he said in a statement here while extending congratulations to the young party MP for his initiative.

Rahul Gandhi's initiative and the ultimate response of the Government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh has brought a new confidence amongs the poorest of the poor, added Mr Dasmunsi, who once headed the Indian Youth Congress.

Mr Dasmunsi appealed to students and all the youth of the country to rally around Rahul Gandhi ''for his beginning of the journey in defence of the poor people of India''.
