Customs officials seize Rs several lakh worth diamonds

Chennai, Sep 29 (UNI) Air Customs officials today seized diamonds, worth Rs several lakh from a passenger, who returned from Colombo by Jet Airways here.

Airport authorities said one Musthaffa Jamal (43), on arrival, carried a bag and walked through the green channel.

The customs authorities grew suspicious, scanned his whole body, and found two plastic covers containing precious stones concealed in his anus.

Assisted by the doctors, the officials removed the bags.

Apart from this, another bag was also found in his luggage containing some precious stones.

Altogether 942 stones weighing one and a half kilos, including diamonds, blue sapphire, white sapphire, yellow sapphire and semi-precious stones were seized from the passenger.

Later, the passenger was handed over to the police for further investigation.
