Committee to submit report within 10 days: Stalin

Tiruchirappali, Sep 29 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government appointed High-Powered Committee on devolution of more powers to local bodies will submit its report within ten days.

Addressing a press conference here today, Local Administration Minister M K Stalin said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, after perusing the report, would announce the provision of devolving more powers to the local bodies.

He said the government, under 'Anaithu Gramma Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT) scheme, would undertake development programmes in 12,618 village panchayats at the cost of Rs 2500 crore in the next five years.

The government was planning to institute an award for the best performing village panchayat.

He said efforts were on to make the 561 town panchayats in the state more self-sufficient.

The High Power Committee had taken into consideration the demands raised by the village panchayat presidents, he added.
