Man sentenced to 7 years RI for killing wife

Puri, Sep 28 (UNI) First Additional Sessions Judge Bhagyadhar Panda has sentenced one Purna Chandra Mallick to seven years' imprisonment for torturing and killing his wife for dowry.

According to the prosecution Purna Chandra of Barabati village under the Delanga police station had murdered his wife Kabita on July 23, 2003.

Police had registered a case under section 498A, 304B, 302 IPC and Dowry Prohibition Act and charge-sheeted the accused to stand trial in the sessions court.

The sessions judge, who pronounced the judgement yesterday, also awarded another term of one year for torture and six months for dowry demand besides a fine of Rs 500.
