Villagers picket sugar mill to press demands
Puducherry, Sep 27 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Lingareddippalayam near here as people from six villages around the Lingareddippalayam Cooperative sugar mills picketed the mill to press their demands.
The villagers, four from Puducherry region and two from Tamil Nadu were protesting the reported move of the territorial administration to set up a distillery inside the mill premises.
Demanding that the government drop the plan, the protesters maintained that the government's move would lead to drinking water problem, spoil agriculture and pollute the enviornment.
Mill Managing Director Ramamurty along with Superintendent of Police (Rural) Mohan Raj held talks and pacified them.
