Vaishya Community to protest big players in retail sector

Jaipur, Sep 27 (UNI) The Akhil Bharatiya Vaishya Mahasammelan, the national confederation of Vaishya community organisations, has protested against the Reliance, Tata and other big industrial groups' entry into retail sector and decided to launch agitation against the trend which is detrimental to traditional small traders.

Talking to reporters here today, confederation's President sitting BJP MP Ramdas Agrawal said his organisation and community was not against the ongoing liberalisation policies but they were against the detrimental effects of the recent trend on the traditional retail supply line being maintained by small traders for centuries.

He said big business or industrial houses should themselves exercise self restrain from entering into retail sector. Mr Agrawal said these groups should concentrate on infrastructure, power sector and heavy industries and leave retail market for small businessmen and traders.

Observing that most of these small traders are Bania(Vaishya) Mr Agrawal said his organisation was planning to launch protest against big houses entry into retail market.

He said Vaishya community had been making contribution in nation building and development and political leadership and society should own and acknowledge the same and should not target or harass the community in different manners like tax raids.
