Road construction works in Sikkim under PMGSY approved

New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) The Centre has approved the construction of 54 road works in Sikkim under phase-VI of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), under the Ministry of Rural Development.

According to an official release issued here today, with this, all the 93 proposals to construct 482.26 km of road length under PMGSY amounting to an outlay of Rs 211.92 crore forwarded by the State Government of Sikkim has been cleared. Till now, road construction projects amounting to Rs 298.37 crore have been sanctioned against the initial Rs 180 crore state share of Sikkim under PMGSY and Rs 212.60 crore has been released.

Rural Development Minister Dr Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has assured the state government of all possible cooperation towards the implementation of the rural development scheme. Under PMGSY, the Central Government has directed all the concerned agencies to connect all the villages with more than 1000 population with all weather roads.

Enough funds are available for this purpose. In order to achieve the Bharat Nirman targets, instructions to speed up preparation of DPRs, floating of tenders and acceleration of road construction works has been issued. To ensure quality work in the entire process, MPs, MLAs and other elected representatives have been authorised to monitor the projects through the respective district vigilance and monitoring committees, the release added.
