RBI to issue new Rs 5 coins shortly

Mumbai, Sep 27 (UNI) Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today said it will shortly roll out a new Rs 5 coins carrying the theme--connectivity and information technology.

The new coin, which will be made of Ferritic stainless steel, will have a diameter of 23 millimeters.

On one side, the coin will be divided into three portions with the centre portion containing the Lion capital of Ashoka Pillar, while the reverse side will represent two visual metaphors depicting the smooth fluid mass representing the ceaseless flow of information, bank said.

The existing five rupee coins in circulation will also continue to be a legal tender, it added.
