New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) A recently married 22-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her 'lover' in Baljeet Nagar area of West Delhi today.

Sangeeta was hit by an ''unidentified man'' early today while she was sleeping, according to the police.

She was rushed to the RML hospital but was declared brought dead.

''The victim was attacked at about 0330 hrs, after her younger sister Geeta, who was sleeping with her, went to another room,'' they said.

Sangeeta's mother found her in a pool of blood, and the man sitting on the floor when she returned home after fetching water.

On seeing her, the accused fled. Three others in the neighbourhood noticed him fleeing, on whose account a sketch has been prepared and hunt was launched to trace him, police added.

''The brick used to hit Sangeeta on the head has been recovered and seized,'' they said.

Meanwhile, sources said the 'killer' was the alleged lover of the victim, who in desperation took this step as Sangeeta, who was married in June this year, was to leave for her in-laws place after the 'Navratris'.

Sangeeta, married to Guru Prasad of Azamgarh (UP), was to leave for her in-laws place during the Navratris as per 'gauna' rituals -- which takes place a few months after marriage.
